Early life

Lee was born in Heukseuk-dong, Dongjak-gu, Seoul. When he was a child, Lee dreamed of becoming a professional soccer player.
He was selected into a special youth soccer class by former professional player Cha Bum-kun, but when he was in grade 5 elementary school, he was injured.
and he had to bury his dream to become a soccer player from then on. In his second year of high school, Lee began to try acting.
He majored in Film and Theater at Konkuk University.

Career

2006–2008: Career beginnings

Lee began auditioning and landed small roles in several television dramas such as Nonstop 5 and Recipe of Love.
He made his official debut through the EBS series, Secret Campus (2003).
Early in his career Lee used the stage name Lee Min because his agency thought that his birth name was too ordinary.
However, since his stage name is pronounced and written in the same way as the Korean word imin which means immigration,
it makes it difficult to appear in search results on the internet. He finally returned to using his real name.

In 2006, his acting career was put on hold for one year after getting into a serious car accident while driving with actor Jung Il-woo.
Lee was seriously injured and spent several months bedridden. After recovering, Lee landed his lead role in the high school drama Mackerel Run (2007)
, but due to low viewership ratings, this drama episode was reduced to only eight episodes.
In 2008, he played in various television dramas such as Get Up and I Am Sam and two films, Public Enemy Returns and Our School's E.T.
2009–2012: Career breakthrough

Lee's career breakthrough came in 2009 due to his lead role as Gu Jun-pyo in the KBS drama Boys Over Flowers which is an adaptation of the Shōjo manga of the same name. In 2010, Lee starred in the romantic comedy drama Personal Taste and played a perfectionist and ambitious young architect who acts as a gay man in order to become a roommate of a young woman, leading to romantic complications. When he was asked why he chose the role in an interview, he said: “I think I will do a better job playing a harder and more certain role when I get older. I think "Personal Taste" is perfect because it's bright and cheerful but you can laugh and cry over it too. "
In 2011, he played the titular character in the action drama City Hunter which is an adaptation of the popular manga Tsukasa Hojo. The drama was a commercial success throughout Asia, and contributed to Lee's popularity in Japan, China, the Philippines and parts of Europe. He participated in the popular Chinese variety show Happy Camp in December 2011.

In 2012, Lee starred in the historical-medical drama Faith with Kim Hee-sun. Even though the drama garnered viewership ratings in the range of 10%, it was a commercial failure due to the high budget.
2013 – present: International popularity

In April 2013, Lee's wax figure was unveiled at Madame Tussauds in Shanghai. He then released his first album "My Everything" in May 2013 and went on a fan meeting tour in Asia.

Lee also announced his return to the small screen with a new drama entitled The Heirs, a teen drama written by Kim Eun-sook.
